According to Bob Arum, the promoters of the WBO / WBA Super and WBC Franchise Lightweight World Champion Vasyl Lomachenko (14-1; 10 KOs) and the IBF Lightweight World Champion Teofimo Lopez (15-0; 12 KOs) there will be a title match between the two world champions in April or May. Only the location and the exact date are in question. Lopez wants to have the fight in New York at Madison Square Garden. This venue might be good for Lomachenko, too, having fought several times at Madison Square Garden. According to Arum, if the match is in the US, New York will be the winner, but Saudi Arabia has also wants to organised this event.
Lopez is looking forward to the match, wants to fight Loma for a long time and promises not to let the judges decide. He obviously thinks he can’t beat the Ukrainian genius by scoring, so he wants to rely on his power. Lopez is unbeaten still and has a KO of 80%. In his last fight defeating Richard Commey with TKO in the second round and winning the IBF World Championship belt. Lopez has big punch power, very fast and great sense of pace, we have seen this against Commey.
At the same time, Lopez has not yet met a fighter like Lomachenko, even a similar one. Although their professional record is similar, but behind the Ukrainian is an amazing amateur past, with vast experience, not to mention his technical knowledge. However, in 2018, Jorge Linares sent him to the floor once, but Loma still defeated him with a knockout, but he was not invulnerable either.
For Lopez, it would be a huge success to be able to win over Loma, not only being the undisputed champion of the lightweight at the age of 22, but also gaining true recognition with this victory.
