Last week, we reported that the PBC would be happy to host a home battle between their two heavyweight boxer, Andy Ruiz Jr. (33-2; 22 KOs) and Luis Ortiz (31-2; 26 KOs). It could be this fight this summer, but it’s still rumor, nothing to know for sure. Ortiz was asked about it and said he could go with him, he would be happy to fight Ruiz. However, he warns, he is not Anthony Joshua, expect another match than he had against AJ.

Ortiz said he wanted to be able to fight somebody next time at the elite of heavyweight. And Ruiz is still in it despite last December’s defeat. He’s sure a good fight between him and Ruiz. It would be action-packed, not like the Ruiz-Joshua rematch, because he wouldn’t run in the ring.

“Ruiz is a good fighter. He beat Joshua and he showed the world he’s a top contender. He showed what he can do but my friend, I’m no Joshua. I don’t know how to run around. If it’s me in there it’s a real fight. I just want to get back in the ring and show the world what I love to do. Hopefully I’ll be back soon but again, yes I’d give Andy that work if he wants it.” – Ortiz told to BoxingScene.

Ortiz said he doesn’t care who he has to fight against, and his manager and PBC leader Al Haymon will decide. They are both PBC boxers, so have a good chance of a match, but maybe a little later. Ruiz should get an easier opponent first and then Ortiz. In terms of rankings, Ruiz would benefit from a victory over Ortiz, but if he loses, he may lose his chance for another world title fight. Fans would probably appreciate a Ruiz – Ortiz fight, it would be a good fireworks show, of course, if Ruiz is in good shape.

Ruiz’s former coach Manny Robles says Ruiz can beat Ortiz, but only if he is 100% prepared. His abilities, chin, strength, speed, everything he need to win just take his preparation seriously.
