Although Anthony Joshua defeated Andy Ruiz Jr. last Saturday and regained his IBO / IBF / WBO / WBA Super title, many are criticized for the match. It is said that it was a boring fight and Joshua mostly ran, almost did not hit. They started calling it the “new Klitschko”, but not in a positive sense.

Lennox Lewis had previously criticized AJ, but now he has defended him. He says Joshua boxed smartly and tactfully. You can’t always knock out your opponent. He was impressed by the discipline Joshua kept on the game plan for 12 rounds.

“Every fight isn’t going to be a KO. I thought AJ fought a good tactical fight and didn’t fall into trap of trying to mix it up in exchanges. … This was a good addition to his experience. He also wisely unpacked his jab for this one. … I understand that ppl want blood… but, as a fighter, you have to be disciplined enough to wait for the opportunities to open up. Sometimes they don’t come. When that happens you play it safe and stick to game plan.” – wrote Lewis on Twitter.
