The legendary boxing coach Freddie Roach has been fortunate enough to work with both legends, and interestingly he thinks that the current welterweight world champion Manny Pacquiao hits harder than legendary heavyweight Mike Tyson. Tyson won 44 of his 50 wins by knockout, while Pacquiao has 39 out of 62 wins so far. It’s hard to imagine what the coach is saying just because of the difference in weight, but Roach explained in an interview last year why he thinks so.

“Pacquiao’s punch has all the elements a hard punch requires – “power, speed and explosion. My whole body went like numb. The power, the speed and explosion is much greater than just dense power. … Manny is one of the few people who has both.” – said Roach.

Roach said he was the biggest puncher he had worked with. When the reporter asked him that even Mike Tyson?  Roach firmly replied that yes, Pac Man had biggest punches.

The Filipino boxer, who received eight World Championship titles, was studied by the Sports Science team in 2015 to determine how hard Pacquiao hits. The speed measurements showed that his punch landed in 0.12 seconds, which was literally faster than a blink of an eye. Pacquiao takes his whole body into the punches and is calculated to hit 806 pounds of force, which means it feels like a shotgun. (According to ibtimes.com)

Earlier, Shane Mosley had said about Pacquiao that he was not physically so strong, but he could hit with such force. He doesn’t even understand how he can do that. It’s like “something in his hands.”

However, that doesn’t prove Pac Man is bigger puncher than Mike Tyson, but if Roach says that, it’s not worth arguing with him.
