Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is just deserving of a break in the Bahamas, but he has to slowly decide who will come next. According to Eric Gomez, president of Golden Boy Promotions, Canelo at the Mexican holiday, Cinco de Mayo weekend (May 2), will be back in the ring. Gomez said he would meet Canelo in the days to agree on the identity of his opponent, so maybe that will be revealed in a few weeks.

Canelo’s coach, Eddy Reynoso, says Canelo won’t fight in light heavyweight, it’s not his weight. It may be suspected that he was no longer planning on being in light heavyweight after gave back the WBO World Championship. As a result, the weight is reduced to two division, middle and super midlleweight.

Rather, Gomez and Reynoso say that the super middleweight will be the winner. Earlier, Canelo said it would be difficult to lose weight to middleweight. Even though there are many candidates to choose an opponent, it is not easy to work with, because it is also important to make the match as marketable as the opponent is known and popular. There are two big names in the super middleweight, the WBA Super Champion Callum Smith and WBO Champion Billy Joe Saunders. Reynoso says they are both on the list of potential opponents.

A Canelo – Saunders fight has already been mentioned several times in the middleweight, but Saunders has already outweighed that weight, but he would fight with Canelo without any problems in 168 lbs. According to experts, Saunders would be the easier choice between Callum Smith and him. Smith is considered a bigger puncher. Although it would be a problem in terms of popularity because none of them is well known in the US, it would certainly interest the English audience.
