For Andy Ruiz Jr. (33-2; 22 KOs), 2019 was a real roller coaster. In June, surprisingly he defeated the unbeaten IBO / IBF / WBO / WBA (Super) heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, droped him four times to the floor. He was well known and recognized for his victory in one fell swoop. He knew the success, glamor, made a lot of money and was unfortunately trapped. According to his own admission, he wasn’t prepared enough to the rematch, he didn’t take it seriously. As a result, he was a world champion for only 6 months. On the rematch Joshua won by unanimous decision and. So Ruiz fell back from the summit to the bottom.
Of course, this is not so dramatic because it still ranks high on the list of all four major organizations. He will soon be able to win another world title fight.
He put up a post on the social media and ask fans who he should fight this year? Joshua and Whyte’s promoter Eddie Hearn quickly commented that Dillian Whyte (27-1; 18 KOs) should be the next opponent. Hearn and Whyte have said on several occasions that they would love a fight against Ruiz.
For Ruiz this victory could help to regain recognition of the fans and the profession if he defeated Whyte. But maybe after his defeat Whyte would be too early. It also depends that he can overcome mentally the defeat. He could win a lot with a win against Whyte, for example, a world title fight in WBC. Fans certainly wouldn’t mind a Ruiz – Whyte fight, it would be a real tough fight with hard punches.
